The A5 leather journal notebook planner cover is handcrafted using a beautiful premium grain leather from an Italian tannery. The fine leather journal notebook cover features a double-snap closure, right-side slot for pen and left side flap pocket to place other documents. The notebook journal cover has been designed to fit the Leuchtturm1917 A5 hardcover notebook or planner. Important Note: This product does not include an A5 sized notebook or planner, only the leather cover.  The A5 notebook and pen shown in photo are to illustrate fit and construction. The A5 notebooks, planners and pens are sold separately.  Please note that there will be texture, color variations throughout areas of the product which gives it a beautiful and natural look. Leather Options

The tannery, Conceria La Perla Azzurra is in Santa Croce sull’Arno (Area of Tuscany) and was established in 1967. There is a choice of Missouri Hickory, Country Hickory or Country Nero (Black) vegetable tanned leather.

Missouri Hickory – The grain is treated with a healthy amount of wax and has a good grip when holding it.  It has a medium-bright sheen. The combination of the hot stuffing blend and the wax gives the leather a heavier, substantial feel (firmer temper) and a great pull-up (when folded).  The leather is milled (“tumbled”) while it’s still thick, which results in a very pronounced and natural looking pebbled grain.

Country Hickory or Nero (Black) – Country is first milled, which softens the leather and gives it a natural grain, and then it is buffed on the underside to give it a smoother touch. This leather has much less wax than the Missouri.  The leather is beautiful to the touch.  The Country Hickory is a slightly lighter hickory brown color than the Missouri. It has a natural sheen and little to no pull-up when folded. While the Country has less of a pebbled look, there are parts of the cowhide exhibiting a more pebbled look (reference product photos).

Caring for Your Leather

We use Saphir Renovateur as a finish for this hand-made leather journal cover.  Saphir Renovateur Cream is a higher quality leather goods conditioner containing beeswax, lanolin and mink oil.  It gently cleans while adding nourishment and protection to the leather. Renovateur Cream is highly regarded by leather care specialists.  This product is recommended for the future care of your leather journal over time.  This particular leather is unique in that lighter scuffs can be buffed out most of the time just by using your finger in a light motion over the scuff or using the Saphir Renovateur Cream.  The Missouri Hickory leather has more of a pull-up where buffing out lighter scratches with your finger is easier.
